The school inquiry project which we have worked on for the last of our class has given us a lot of knowledge and insights which we can carry on into our future. I think one takeaway from this project was that it made us better interpreters of information. One example of how we could possibly interpret information is by finding out why certain areas had lower scores than others. We were able to discover the reasonings behind this because of the information that we were provided. The project also gave us a lot of resources which I think is a takeaway that everyone can benefit from because of this project. By having resources like report cards, we as students can use this information to help us in the future. These resources give us information that can help us better understand the school system and how each school can vary from others. The report cards are a very important part of this project and I think it benefits all of us. My third takeaway from this project is that we better understand how each school functions differently in its policies but also by structure. We better understand the differences between charter schools, public schools, private schools, etc… This understanding of schools goes into my fourth takeaway from this project, which is that we are really able to fully deep dive into understanding the funding process and how each school has to adapt to their students’ needs due to the funding they receive in schools. We can see this through the demographics usually and we are able to deduce some potential reasons as to why funding affects this specific school. My fifth and final takeaway from this project is that a lot of our schools are struggling to keep up with national standards. When we looked at a lot of statistics we were able to see the majority of schools fall behind. This can show how important it is for future educators to participate in the education system so that we can get these scores back up. A lot of scores were heavily affected due to COVID and this was proven in an interview with the Green Bay West high school principal. It is important that we are able to recover to where we once were before COVID. The school inquiry project allowed us to better understand the education system and the many differences across every school and how learning is going to be affected by certain factors within the school. It has allowed us to learn and better understand the very system we are about to be a part of.
Thanks for sharing your insights Shane. These are valuable principles that can facilitate your development as an educator; hang on to them.
